SpiceJet to make Delhi hib for small aircraft, boost regional connectivity in north

New Delhi: India's third largest airline and second biggest low cost carrier (LCC), SpiceJet, is expanding its turboprop base to Delhi now, a move that will help enhance the capital's regional connectivity. The airline had ordered 30 Bombardier's 78-seater Q400 turboprop and has already got seven in its fleet.
"Next week, SpiceJet expects to get five more Q400 aircraft and these would be primarily deployed in Delhi to serve north India. Our fleet expansion with the Q400 is aimed at enhancing air connectivity to tier-II and tier-III cities," said an airline source. Delhi will be the LCC's third base for Q400 aircraft after Hyderabad and Chennai. The airline uses this turboprop to connect cities like Aurangabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Indore, Madurai, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and Vizag.
