Use mobiles as boarding pass at airports

New Delhi: In what will make air travel easy and seamless, airports and airlines the world over are facilitating passengers to take boarding cards from their mobiles instead of wasting time at check-in counters.
The method seems fairly simple. Do a web check-in, which will send an sms to your mobile with a link. Click on the link and the mobile will retreive your boarding pass. However, the actual application is cumbersome. Imagine going the airport and taking your mobile out, checking your smses, clicking on the link and then showing the boarding pass. Time wasted, right?
Keeping this in mind, Toulouse-Blagnac airport will this month go in for trails of a more efficient technology called NFC (Near Field Communication). "Fifty passengers will use latest BlackBerry smartphones with NFC technology. After web check-in, a special sms will be automatically loaded on the mobile and read at the airport when it is tapped on a scanner," says Renaud Irminger, Paris-based director of SITA Lab, which is collaborating with Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, Orange and BlackBerry for this innovation.
