Bangalore: The tussle between state government and Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIA) is back. This time over moving Aero India, biennial air-show event, out of Bangalore.
In a letter to defence minister A K Anthony, chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda has asked the defence ministry not to move aeroindia out of Bangalore. Gowda in his letter written during last week of June has said that BIAL has objected to air-show citing airspace management.
"The BIAL has taken up issue of airspace management with the ministry of civil aviation. In turn civil aviation ministry has written to defence ministry to consider moving air show to a location where there is greater free air space available, most likely to Udaipur in Rajasthan," Gowda said.
The BIAL has reportedly asked the civil aviation ministry to move out air show because the event would affect commercial flight operations for five days as the BIA is close to Yelahanka air base of Indian Air Force (IAF), venue of air show.
Gowda has maintained that BIA runway was closed in the month of April this year for almost 30 days from 10.30am to 5pm for maintenance and repair of runway.
