Mumbai: Representatives of at least seven companies owning business jets met the Mumbai International Airport Limited (Mial) management on Tuesday to protest against ‘exorbitant’ penalties for extended use of the parking bays at Santa Cruz airport.
The meeting was convened after some of the who’s who of India Inc were not allowed to fly because their firms had not paid the penal charges.
These charges have been levied by Mial with effect from July 1 on private aircraft registered outside Mumbai and parked at the airport beyond an agreed number of days. One infrastructure company was saddled with a bill for Rs18 lakh, and was allowed to fly the plane only after paying up.
