Denied pension by regional provident fund office, airport officials move to court

Kolkata: Retired officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) have moved to the Calcutta high court against the regional provident fund commissioner for rejecting their pension claim despite contributing to the fund during their service tenure. Nearly 2,700 officials who have retired since 2007 have not received any pension. This is a rare instance of employees filing a case against the PF body for reneging on payment. Usually, it is the latter who takes legal recourse against companies for failing to deposit money deducted from employees' salaries. Apart from the regional PF commissioner Delhi, regional PF commissioner Kolkata, AAI member HR, regional executive director Kolkata, airport director Kolkata and Union labour ministry have been made respondents in the case.
