In ‘taxing’ times, Punjab orders Rs 38-cr chopper for Badals

Chandigarh: It has been blaming the former Congress government and the Centre for the state being fund-starved and it has mega plans to impose taxes on the masses to mop-up Rs 4,500 crore, but that has not stopped the SAD-BJP government in Punjab from placing an order for helicopter for the exclusive use of the chief minister and his deputy. The state civil aviation department has signed a purchase agreement with US-based Bell Helicopters to purchase a specially designed Bell 429 — a twin-engine five-seater helicopter — worth Rs 38 crore for flying Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal.
