Kingfisher woes lift Jet Air to profit

Mumbai: After posting losses for five consecutive quarters, Jet Airways and SpiceJet managed to turn in a profit in the April-June quarter. Experts attributed this to gain in pricing power following jettisoning of significant capacity by debt-laden Kingfisher Airlines.
However, analysts said since June quarter is typically the second-best quarter for the airline industry, whether the good run continues for the rest of the year is a tough call.
Challenges such as high fuel prices and sluggish macroeconomic situation continue, which has prompted analysts to not call this a profit-making trend yet.
