L-shaped scanners to check cargo theft

Mumbai: The constant security threat at international cargo terminal at the Mumbai airport is expected to subside, with the recent start of a new advanced infrastructure and security system already in place.
Stating that the move will bring down the theft cases, an airport official said, “Due to the high number of parcels being transited daily, many instances of unscanned goods getting mixed with scanned goods were taking place, thus posing a security risk.”
Spread over an area of 1,08,684 sqmt, the cargo section established in 1977 is ranked among the top 30 busiest airports where cargo handled is estimated to be over 6,71,000 tonnes.Air India and Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) are custodians of the cargo terminal.
