PIL seeks cancellation of land leased to Pvt. Airport operators

New Delhi: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed today at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the lease deeds for Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) to private operators DIAL (Delhi International Airport Private Limited) and MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Private Limited).
The petition - relying on a "draft CAG audit report" - has alleged that public land was given to private companies for the airports in Delhi and Mumbai at Rs 100 per annum lease for a period of 60 years.
"On 23-5-2012, petitioner came to know about the draft CAG audit report dated 2011 disclosing about serious corruption and fraud in transferring public properties to the private companies free of cost, created huge loss to the public/ Nation amounting to Rs 2,68,000 crores," said the PIL filed by advocate ML Sharma.
