Ten-year roadmap for Odisha’s civil aviation

The State Government has formulated a roadmap and strategies for 10 years from 2012-13 to 2022-23 for boosting intra-State and inter-State civil aviation facilities.
According to official sources, State public sector undertaking IPICOL in association with the Civil Aviation Department has initiated a framework to attract investment in aviation-related sector for the development of intra- and inter-State trade and tourism. The proposed areas of development range from creation of night parking facility and hinterland connectivity for establishment of Aero City, MRO and Refueling Hub. Identified milestones of work accomplishment are domestic terminal and connectivity, setting up of aviation training institutes, operationalisation of international flight, development of cargo hub and airline base, the sources said.
Stating that at present there are 17 airstrips and 16 helipads in Odisha, the sources said the Government has identified nine locations in the State to be connected through civil aviation. As per the road map, the State Government has plans to develop Greenfield Airports in five locations, namely Rayagada, Paradip, Dhamara, Anugul and Kalinganagar.
Besides, upgrade of four existing airfields, namely Gopalpur, Jharsuguda, Barbil and Rourkela, have also been proposed.
