Up to 25% pay cut for Air India employees

New Delhi: In a move that could spark fresh unrest at cash-strapped Air India, wages of unpaid-for-months employees have been cut with the government abolishing performance-linked incentives (PLI) from July. AI will take cabinet nod to keep paying licensed categories - pilots, engineers and cabin crew - some flying allowances but their foreign allowances will be cut from the current monthly fix amount of $1,700 (Rs 94,520) and $2,400 (Rs 133, 440) and linked to the number of days they actually fly and remain overseas.
These three licensed categories of employees, for whom PLI amounts to almost 75% of their entire pay, will take a hit of up to 20% to 25%, lower level will take a hit of 10% and senior management will lose about 20% of their total pay.
