6-month disruption in civil air traffic to hit trade in region

The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) on Friday expressed apprehensions that trade and commerce in the city and the region will be severely hit by the six-month disturbance in civil air traffic during work to upgrade the Pune Airport. MCCIA office-bearers said this underlines the important and urgency of having an independent airport for civil traffic.
Indian Air Force (IAF) has taken up the Modernisation of Airfield Infrastructure (MAFI) project at 26 IAF bases, including its Pune base. The project has been completed in Bathinda and involves installing new Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) that could include localiser antenna and guide-path buildings to enhance navigation, a Distant Measuring Equipment (DME), CAT2 new airfield lighting system, Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS), Voice Communications Control System (VCCS) among other facilities.
