AI to start direct flights from Gaya to Jeddah for Haj pilgrims from Sep 17 this year

Mumbai: Air India (AI) will operate two direct flights for Haj pilgrims from Gaya Airport, Bihar to Jeddah from September 17 to October 11 this year, carrying a total of 250 pilgrims every day. Earlier, pilgrims from the state had to travel either to Delhi or Kolkata to board a flight to Saudi Arabia, according to a report by Faizan Ahmad in The Times of India. Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Government of Bihar, will see off the first batch of pilgrims from Haj Bhavan on the evening of September 16, 2012, said Maulana Anisur Rahman Qasmi, Chairman, Bihar State Haj Committee, adding that special buses from Patna will carry the pilgrims to Gaya daily.
