Capt Gopinath wants to fly again

Mumbai: Founder of erstwhile Air Deccan seeks a foreign partner for new low-cost venture
Four years after Air Deccan was merged into the almost defunct Kingfisher Airlines, Capt G R Gopinath, the man who pioneered budget airlines in the country, plans to have a second go at the business by taking advantage of the relaxed norms for the foreign investment in the sector.
“India has not seen a new scheduled national airline for almost eight years now. Foreign airlines may prefer to invest in a new venture where they can create a model and DNA that requires lower capital infusion than paying a premium to buy up to 49 per cent stake in an existing airline. I am going to have a second go at starting a budget carrier in India. I will look at it seriously and move with speed and at the right time I will choose a foreign partner,” Gopinath, the founder and chairman of Deccan Charters, told Financial Chronicle.
