Indigo becomes market leader in domestic skies

Mumbai: Indigo airlines overtook Jet airways to become the market leader, reveled the estimate published by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). As per the data, low-cost-carrier Indigo's market share stood at 27.6 percent. Jet airways' market share was 25.2 percent. this included Jet airways' low-cost subsidy Jetlite too.
Aviation industry experts said that the Indigo has been expanding rapidly and has even hogged a good share of business travelers who were earlier full-cost loyalists. The introduction of a business class, expansion to most cities within India, has helped Indigo claim a major chunk of the market share. Spice Jet, another low-cost-carrier stood third with 18.5 percent market share. Interestingly, Spice Jet was a bit ahead of Air India (AI) domestic wing, which has a market share of 18.2 percent. Kingfisher airline's market share shrunk to a meagre 3.2 percent and predictably so.
