New tech at Bangalore airport will speed up processes

Bangalore: If you've been frequently frustrated by snaking queues for baggage X-ray or at check-in counters at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA), a solution is in the offing.
The airport will be piloting an automated baggage service kiosk next year where a passenger can get his boarding pass, check-in his baggage, self-tag it and pay any excess baggage fee and directly proceed to security check.
BIA has also adopted an intelligent information architecture from IBM that connects disparate systems and processes across the airport and which will make airport processes much faster. With this, the airport has also become one of the first airports in the world to implement the Aviation Information Data Exchange (AIDX), a single standard format for exchanging flight-related data between airports, airlines, vendors and systems.
