Stranded flier wins Rs 45k from Spicejet

Mumbai: A consumer court on Monday ordered budget airline Spicejet to pay M Shivraman, managing director of General Insurance Company, Rs 45,000 for failing to fly him from Vishakapatnam to Mumbai in January 2010. Of the Rs 45,000 fine, Rs 35,000 was compensation for inconvenience and mental harassment, while Rs 10,000 was towards legal expenses.
On January 11, 2010, several passengers of a Vizag-Hyderabad-Mumbai flight (SG 402) ended up stranded at Hyderabad’s Shamshabad Airport and left to fend for themselves.
