New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Sigh has directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) not to levy the proposed Airport Development Fee (ADF) on passengers at the Chennai and Kolkata airports.
An official press release said here today that Mr Singh had taken a strong view on the proposals to this effect by the AAI.
Following the directive, the AAI has now submitted proposals to Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) without incorporating ADF, it said.
The release said the Minister’s directive on ADF is in line with the stated objective of the Government to make air travel affordable and to ensure that the passengers are not subjected to any extra burden.
The AAI had submitted proposals to AERA earlier for levy of Development Fee of Rs. 300 per embarking domestic passenger and Rs. 1000 per embarking international passenger at Chennai and Kolkata airports.
The proposals were returned to AAI by AERA with the direction to undertake the user consultations and make fresh proposals indicating agreements/ views of the users.
