Delayed salary: Air India pilots write to Ajit Singh again

Mumbai: Air India pilots have sent another letter to Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, demanding immediate payment of their salary arrears for the past four months.
In a second letter within three days, the members of Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) of the erstwhile Indian Airlines, have alleged that the minister has been "briefed wrongly" about the pilots getting paid regularly.
ICPA said the flying allowances - which constitute about 80 per cent of the total salaries - are due since June, and the payment received late last month was for the work done in April, and so on.
"With such huge backlog, exhausted resources, one cannot function in tranquility, which is very important while piloting a plane as this directly affects flight safety," the ICPA pointed out.
It added that while assessing air tragedies which have resulted from human errors, the main factor is the psychological stresses impacting performance of operating personnel assigned with crucial tasks.
