I told Rao that airport agreement wasn't transparent: Gayom

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom today revealed that he had informed the head of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) operator GMR, India G M Rao that the agreement awarding the airport to the company for 25 years had been signed under dubious circumstances.
Speaking to reporters after returning to Male from his private visit to India, Gayoom revealed that GMR wishes to operate the airport to the best of its ability, referring to his meeting with Rao in India. However, he added that he had conveyed the concerns of the Maldivian people over the agreement to Rao.
“That meeting was not planned. Rao visited the hospital we were at,” Gayoom said.
“The first thing Rao shared with me was details of the company. He detailed the size of the company, its various investments in various sectors and its many achievements,” he detailed.
“I told him that we had no issues with India. We are always thankful to the assistance provided by India. We remain that way and no Maldivian has any ill will against India. India would always have our best wishes,” he state.
