Kingfisher Airlines gets no ‘boarding pass’ this winter

New Delhi: Cash-strapped Kingfisher drew a blank as the aviation regulator approved the winter schedule on Wednesday, allotting more flights to low-cost carriers IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir this season than what they operated last year.
Kinfisher’s flight schedule was not approved as the arline has grounded all its flights till late this month.
There will be a new airline operating in the country -- the regional airline Mantra has been given 42 flights in the winter calendar commencing October 28.
Air India and Jet Airways have significantly lost their flight share this season.
“Air India, Alliance Air, Jet Airways and JetLite have reduced capacity in domestic market in winter schedule 2012, whereas, Spicejet, Go Air and IndiGo operations will increase due to capacity augmentation,” the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation said in a release.
The DGCA approved 10,935 departures per week, which was 19 per cent less than the last year. The total number of departures last year were 13,541.
