Kingfisher strike ends, uncertainty continues

New Delhi: The 26-day deadlock at Kingfisher Airlines ended Thursday after the management agreed to pay four months’ salary dues to its employees by December, and the striking workers decided to resume work with immediate effect.
The breakthrough, however, does not ensure that the carrier, which is deep in debt and losses, can start flying anytime soon. Its licence remains suspended and its revival plan still appears uncertain, officials and analysts said.
“It’s a welcome step that employees have been paid. But the airline can restart only if it convinces DGCA that its plan is financially sustainable,” Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said.
Earlier in the day, after separate meetings with protesting pilots and engineers in Delhi, Kingfisher Airlines CEO Sanjay Aggarwal told reporters that all employees would resume work immediately. Aggarwal was expected to meet the DGCA on Friday.
