Chennai/Puducherry: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is ready to begin operations at the Puducherry airport by next month, but no airlines have so far expressed interest to fly to the Union Territory.
“We are expecting power supply in a week. If we cross this milestone, then we only have to wait for the nod from the Centre and state authorities.
Already, all our installations have been approved by both,” AAI southern region executive director D. Devaraj told Deccan Chronicle.
He said the new terminal building and the extended runway of about 1,503 metres were ready for operations.
“We already have an air traffic control team functioning for one shift, catering to the requirements of flying school, helicopter and un-scheduled flight operations in Puducherry,” he added. However, he noted that in the current facility, only ATR type aircraft with up to 72 seats and Bombardier flights can land.
