Antony to decide fate of new Ranchi airport

Ranchi: Union defence minister A K Antony will take a final call on construction of a 1km approach road to the new world-class integrated terminal building of the Ranchi airport. A Rs 138-crore project, the terminal building is ready and awaits its inauguration. Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials had earlier planned to inaugurate the building soon after Diwali.
Anuj Kumar Bishoni, additional secretary in the defence ministry, who held a meeting with Jharkhand chief secretary S K Chaudhary, development commissioner and other officials on November 16, promised the officials concerned that the matter will be taken up with Antony, who would have the final word on the issue.
Sources at the airport said if things go as planned and Antony gives his nod to the project, the approach road would be ready before December 31 and the terminal building would be thrown open in the first week of January.
