CISF likely to be stripped of airport duty

New Delhi: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) may soon be divested of its duty to guard airports. The government is closer to implementing the recommendation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that a special force under the ministry of civil aviation (MCA) should be constituted to guard airports.
Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Thursday hinted that CISF may have to relinquish its coveted duty of maintaining security at airports and its job may be taken over by the Aviation Security Force (ASF) under MCA.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function organized by CISF, Shinde, when asked about the proposal, said, "It has not come to the home ministry as yet. However, even if the new force is made, the CISF will guard the airport from outside."
