Kannur: With the appointment of the new consultancy, the work on the Mattanur airport will start soon and it is likely to become operational in 2015, said managing director V Thulasidas.
"The new consultancy, AECOM Asia, which was awarded the consultancy in the director board meeting of Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) on Thursday, is expected to start the works within 15 days, and if everything goes according to plan, we can start the development works in the first quarter of 2013 and it will be completed in 2015," he said after a meeting convened to chart the programmes for the inauguration of the KIAL project office in Mattannur on December 6, here on Friday.
He said the process of calling fresh tender for the earth works and the concreting works of the airport would begin in December, after discussions with the new consultant.
"In the previous pre-qualification tender for the earth works, nearly 25 companies, including some foreign companies, had expressed interest but it was found that only one company met the eligibility criterion," he added. "Since there was no competition, the tender evaluation committee decided to re-float the tender combining the earth works and the concreting work ," he said.
