The district administration has proposed three new villages near Rajgurunagar for development of an international airport.
According to officials, an area of 3,000 acres (1,200 hectares) was shown to the surveyors of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), which had declared the site proposed earlier for the airport unsuitable for an airstrip due to its “undulating terrain”.
The new site is spread over three villages of Chandoos, Kurkumbwadi and Kewale. Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh, the Khed SDO and MADC officials were present for the survey on Monday.
