Chennai: Amir Taha (32) from Kerala was detained by Airport Police on Tuesday for attempting to break the security cordon of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who was entering the airport on his way to New Delhi. Taha allegedly tried to take pictures of the Minister from close quarters when police took him into custody.
The police was in for a surprise when they found that he was the same youth who was detained by the CISF commandoes last month along with another person for taking the pictures of the Air India Boeing Dreamliner inside Chennai airport. The duo had put security officials tense when they purchased Chennai-New Delhi Business class tickets by paying `75,000, boarded the aircraft, took pictures and demanded to be deplaned minutes before the flight was to taken off. They were in custody for two days and the police set them free reportedly at the instance of some political heavyweights from Kerala. Taha is an activist of dreaded National Development Front, an Islamic militant body.
Taha had with him confirmed Chennai-Delhi ticket and Delhi-Dubai ticket which aroused suspicion in the minds of the security officials. The reason given by him for trying to trespass into the security cordon of the Minister sounded odd.
