New Delhi: India has started the process for swanky new 'Air India—One' aircraft for the official foreign travel of the President, the Vice-President and the Prime Minister.
The new aircraft will replace the ageing jumbo jets currently being used for the purpose. Sources said that three Boeing-777s that Air India is yet to receive from an earlier order is being viewed as a probable replacement for the ageing Boeing 747s.
A committee of secretaries (CoS) is expected to discuss the issue next month. If approved, the government could ask the US aviation giant to customise and configure the three Boeing 777 aircraft for dedicated VVIP use. The customised aircraft is also expected to comprise an intensive care unit.
