Better flight info system to pre-empt fog hassles

This winter, air travellers may expect lesser fog-induced hassles as Delhi airport is ready to provide real-time information of flight movement and delays.
This would help flyers know cancellations and delays much in advance for them to plan accordingly. The preparation comes at time when the weatherman has predicted the start of foggy weather conditions.
“To reduce delays and congestion due to fog, we have devised a plan that would ensure smooth flow of flight information, almost on real time basis, to the passengers,” said I Prabhakar Rao, chief executive officer of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on during Friday. Passengers would be provided with accurate information about flights through the Flight Information Display System (FIDS) at the airport terminal. It would be updated regularly by the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) based on the information given by the airlines, he said.
