Coimbatore airport to get plant quarantine lab

Coimbatore: The exporters of perishable goods through airways will finally get a new lease of life, with Airport Authorities managing to convince the Ministry of Agriculture to set up a plant quarantine lab at the Coimbatore airport premises.
Speaking to reporters, on the sideline of the inauguration of digital flight display board for the convenience of passengers at the airport on Wednesday, K Peter Abraham, airport director, Airport Authority of India, Coimbatore, said that the lab facility would be established inside the premises within a month.
He said that the quarantine lab would be a great boon for exporters of perishable good like vegetables. It is important to get quarantine certification for exporters to ensure products are kept fresh and safe without bacterial contamination. In the absence of this, products could be sent back.
