Mumbai: For the first time in years, air fares from Mumbai to Goa around Christmas and New Year are not exorbitantly priced. For about Rs 4,000, one can book a one-way ticket to Goa on December 31. But yes, there is a catch: the return fares for flights departing on January 1 and 2 are pretty high at Rs 11,000. However, if one can afford to stay a bit longer in Goa, a return ticket to the beach destination can be had for Rs 8,000. When was the last time that happened?
"When Kingfisher Airlines suspended its flight operations in October, other carriers were ready to exploit the new demand-supply equation to the hilt. But passengers did not respond to the incredibly high Diwali fares. The average passenger load for the month of November was 70%, which is quite low for a Diwali month," said an airline official, requesting anonymity. "It seems that airlines are wary of putting out very high fares."
