Goa’s new airport project at Mopa may cost Rs 3,000 crore

Kolkata:  The Goa Government is planning to float a global tender for its new airport project at Mopa in the northern part of the State by March 2013.
According to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the new airport will be developed on a public private partnership (PPP) basis. The State’s contribution will be restricted to providing land for the project.
The airport will come up at an expected cost of Rs 3,000 crore and is likely to be operational in another four years’ time (2016).
“Although we wanted to float the tenders by the end of this year, we were unable to do so. We will float tenders in March after obtaining the necessary environmental clearances,” Panikar told reporters on the sidelines of PanIIT — a global conference of IIT alumni — here on Saturday.
