IndiGo, Air India to retain top slots at Kingfisher Airlines’ expense

New Delhi: The year 2012 has proved to be a year of gains for both Indi-Go and Air India, who beat Jet Airways in terms of market share by capitalising most on the misfortune of Kingfisher Airlines.
However, high fares have kept travelers away from the skies, with the year recording negative passenger growth.
While IndiGo toppled Jet Airways group in July, becoming the largest airline by number of passengers flown, national carrier Air India was able to woo more passengers, thus, reducing cash losses in the last few months.
Air India gave a tough fight to competitor Jet Airways in November by flying one fifth of the total passengers in India, data by aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows.
