Chandigarh: As thick fog completely engulfed the City Beautiful on Saturday, all flights, operating from the Chandigarh airport, remained cancelled on Saturday because of poor visibility at the runway.
Director Chandigarh Airport, Captain H S Toor, told TOI that visibility at local airport was measured less than 400 metres on Saturday, resulting in cancellation of all civilian flights. He added that the Instrument Landing System (ILS) - a navigation aid required for easy landing of flights in poor visibility conditions - also failed to work. The present category of ILS helps in landing only if the visibility level is 1,200 metres or above.
