Tribunal stays penal parking fee for pvt aircraft in Mumbai airport

Mumbai: The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority Appellate Tribunal on Friday stayed the penal parking charges imposed by Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL) for general aviation aircraft in Mumbai.
In an application filed by the Business Aircraft Operators Association (BAOA), the body representing the owners (mainly corporates) of private aircraft, the appellate tribunal directed the parties to maintain status quo on the parking charges and directed MIAL to charges the parking charges as were approved by the Airport Authority of India for general aviation aircraft for Mumbai Airport and posted the matter for hearing on January 4, 2013. This incidentally happens to be the first ever application before the Appellate Tribunal invoking its original jurisdiction.
The dispute arose between the parties when MIAL decided to hike parking charges up to Rs 15,000 per hour since July 1, 2012, without seeking any approval and sanction from the regulator, the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA ) constituted under the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority Act, 2008.
