Chennai: At least 12 flights suffered delay in landing or during take off at Chennai airport on Friday as its lone ‘operational’ runway was ‘unofficially’ closed for 30 minutes to enable the police to hold a ceremonial parade for visiting vice-president Hamid Ansari. No flight could land or take off during the parade, airport officials admitted.
They said Ansari’s IAF aircraft landed at the old terminal of Meenambakkam airport at 12.48 pm. Governor K. Rosaiah and chief minister J. Jayalalithaa were present to welcome him along with state ministers and senior officials.
