25 lakh gold bars hidden in chocolate wrappers seized


Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs department arrested a passenger attempting to smuggle in gold bars worth Rs 25 lakh at Mumbai airport. The bars were concealed in chocolate packing.
According to AIU officials, passenger Abdul Latif landed in Mumbai early on Saturday morning from Riyadh. Latif was booked on a flight to Mangalore later in the day. Officials had prior information and
A team led by assistant commissioner Sameer Wankhede intercepted him before he could proceed to the domestic terminal. Officials said an initial check of Latif's bags did not reveal anything. However, a stack of chocolates attracted suspicionboth. "He was carrying about 25 chocolates in his bag. On opening them, we found the gold bars," said an AIU official. Among 25 chocolates, seven were gold bars. The bars were sealed to look like branded chocolates.
