Juhu airport security plan awaits BCAS nod

Mumbai: The Juhu airport will finally get dedicated security cover with the Mumbai police having agreed to allot 88 personnel, in addition totwo platoons of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) with 24 members each.
Currently, there is not one armed guard at the airport, which is why there have been serious concerns over the security arrangements following terror threats.
The government-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is the largest user of the airport that has the biggest helibase in the country. ONGC flies personnel and equipment from this base to its rigs in Bombay High.
Airport Authority of India (AAI) sources said that a team of officials from the Bureau of Civil Aviation and Security (BCAS) will visit the airport this week. They will be briefed about the arrangement being worked out with the Mumbai police. BCAS co-ordinates security at all Indian airports.
The sources added that once the BCAS is satisfied, it will give its approval for the deployment of the police personnel.
