Mysore airport expansion on hold

Mysore: The Mysore Airport's expansion plans are grounded for now.
The Union ministry of road transport and highways is going ahead with its plan to upgrade National Highway 212 and making it a four-lane stretch between Mysore and Nanjangud. The airport located at Mandakalli requires a little over 300 acres, mainly to extend the runway which cuts across the Mysore-Nanjangud road.
The upgradation work will start in three months and is expected to be over in two years, the Union minister of state for road transport and highways Sarvey Sathyanarayana told reporters here on Friday. Asked whether it will affect airport expansion plans, he said the Karnataka government has told the Union government it has no immediate plans to take up expansion. "There is no proposal to realign the Mysore-Nanjangud road now. It can be taken up in future," he said.
