Renewed efforts to reopen secondary runway at Chennai soon

Chennai: The re-opening of the secondary runway would be the next target for the Airports Authority of India (AAI) after the new terminals in Chennai airport slated for commissioning on January 31.
Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Arun Mishra is yet to give the nod for re-commissioning of the runway after it was expanded over the Adyar River.
Mishra is clear about the need for an instrument landing system (ILS) to commence scheduled operations in an full-fledged manner on the secondary runway. AAI is thus looking to re-map the threshold area, which is the starting point of landing on the secondary runway because of obstructions and shorten its operational length.
