Chennai: With logistics being the main dampener in cargo operations at the city airport, agents believe that a separate entrance from the Kolapakkam side would help.
“The Airports Authority of India (AAI) need not think about a new cargo hub, but they should do something to solve the current congestion problem. If we can have a separate entry and exit away from the GST Road then it would be advantageous,” said Customs House Clearance Agents Association president A.V. Vijayakumar.
A cargo manager working with a foreign airline said that traffic restriction on bigger vehicles between 6 am and 6 pm affected cargo movement to the terminal.
Acknowledging the logistical problems faced by users, G.K. Chaukiyal, member (Operations), AAI said that the issues would be sorted out soon. “But we don’t see any reason to move the current facility to the other side of the airport. The close proximity to the national highway is in itself an advantage,” he added.
