Agitation to save Amritsar international airport

Rajasansi:  BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu has called for an agitation to save Amritsar's Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport which is running over Rs 56 crore loss due to withdrawal of international flights. While talking to media persons before inauguration of Help Desk at the airport on Tuesday Sidhu apprehended of Center governments deliberate mechanism of withdrawing international flights from Amritsar only to give benefit to GMR Group which has interests in airports. "The loss is more than Rs 56 crore and if it continued the airport would be redundant " said he.
While stating that city's economy was dependent on tourism and cross border trade, Sidhu said border trade depended on the neighboring country's government also but development of airport was entirely in the hands of center government. He informed that around 1.14 lakh Punjabi's fly abroad from Delhi whereas they could have easily boarded flights from Amritsar. Giving clean chit to state government he said Punjab government had done whatever it could do for the development of airport.
