Amritsar: Pointing out that Amritsar International Airport enjoyed a unique strategic location, an NRI member of the Amritsar Vikas Manch, Harjab Singh Aujla, said Friday that Amritsar airport was fully capable of generating three hundred passengers each for Birmingham, Toronto, Vancouver and London. Aujla, however, lamented that there was lack of will on the part of those in authority to turn the fortunes of the airport.
"Nearly two and a half million people from districts surrounding this airport are settled in Great Britain, Canada and United States. But these flights are sadly not being started by any India-based carrier. Amritsar-London and Amritsar-Birmingham direct flights can be completed in twenty hours and can be highly profitable, but none of the Indian aviation company is taking advantage of these lucrative routes.
