Bird hits decline at Dabolim airport

Margao:  The risk of aircrafts suffering from bird hits has been negated by the proactive role taken up by the four panchayats around Dabolim airport and the Mormugao municipal council (MMC) who have been collecting garbage from around the airport's radius, but larger problems are being faced including finding a site for disposal of garbage.
District collector N D Agrawal had given the four village panchayats of Velsao-Pale, Chicalim, Sancoale and Bogmalo-Chicolna and the MMC a deadline of October 31, 2012, to take measures for the regular collection of garbage, which was not happening earlier. This was in view of cases of bird hits, the root cause of which was due to mismanagement of garbage in the area and the collector had warned these bodies that failure to adhere to the deadline would force the government to proceed under Section 133 of the CrPC against them.
