Despite court advice, AI refuses premises for cabin crew elections

Fed up of tackling strikes by pilots in 2012, the Air India management has refused to provide any of its premises for the cabin crew union to conduct elections, despite being advised to do so by Bombay High Court.
The management has cited security of passengers as the reason for refusal. For years, AI provided its premises for holding elections of its various employee associations, and for the All India Cabin Crew Association, the management has been providing its premises since 1972.
Elections are due after the previous union’s term expired last March and the union subsequently split into two factions, with both groups moving court over control, following which HC ordered fresh elections.
