Bengaluru: HAL made a renewed pitch to reopen HAL Airport at Vimanapura for commercial operations involving small aircraft and short haul flights, with its chairman R.K. Tyagi telling reporters that both Bangalore International Airport and HAL could “co-exist.”
During his visit to Bengaluru last week, the Civil Aviation Secretary reportedly suggested that the reopening of HAL Airport should be explored.
“Last week, Aviation Secretary was pro-active when he himself took a flight from HAL. He said it (HAL airport) is a valuable infrastructure, and it can be used in coexistence with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) without violating the 150 kms rule,” HAL Chairman RK Tyagi said at Aero India on Thursday.
