Project to give Pune airport a facelift delayed

Pune: The much-awaited makeover of Pune airport under the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) ambitious Modernisation of Air Field Infrastructure (MAFI) project has been delayed. Reason: the pilot MAFI project at the Bhatinda air base has run into problems.
Based on the result of the project at Bhatinda, the IAF had planned to start MAFI project at Pune airport in November-December last year. It has now been postponed.
The IAF has taken up the ambitious MAFI project to upgrade its 26 air bases across the country.
Under this project, Pune airport is expected to get modern gadgets like Instrument Landing System (ILS), CAT2 (new airfield landing) and automated area traffic control system which will be beneficial for both IAF and civilian flight operators to improve air space management.
