Ahmedabad: The CBI arrested absconding retired deputy superintendent of police K M Vaghela, wanted for his role in the 2003 Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter, from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the wee hours of Thursday.
Vaghela, a key accused in the case, landed at the airport around 3.30 am on a Qatar Airways flight. During the immigration clearance, he was intercepted by officials after they found there was a look-out circular in the name of Vaghela.
"Vaghela told us he was coming from the US via Dubai. We established his identity and intimated the CBI. Vaghela was handed over to Sardarnagar police station," said a source at the airport.
