Sriperumbudur can be SE Asia air hub

Chennai: While a study done by Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) revealed that Chennai airport has potential to become an aviation hub in Southeast Asia region as its capacity could be scaled up to handle 40 million passengers an year in the future, S. Raheja, member (planning) of the Airports Authority of India, says it would be ideal to plan an airport at Sriperumbudur which would house all facilities rather than modify the existing airport in the city.
“Sriperumbudur is placed in such a way that we can plan two or even three runways and have all modern facilities including latest model terminals, maintenance, repair and overhaul blocks, hangers and parking yards from the conceptual stage to make it a Southeast Asia hub for both cargo and passengers handling,” he added.
